Beef and Guinness Pie

Servings: 4

Ingredients


1 kg Beef (we used gravy beef)
2 tbsp Butter
2 Onion chopped
2 tsp Garlic crushed
1/4 cup Flour plain
1 cup Beef Stock
1 cup Guinness Beer
1 Puff Pastry sheet
1 Salt to taste
1 Pepper to taste

Directions


  1. Cut the Gravy Beef into bite sized cubes.
  2.  Heat the butter in a pot and cook the onion until soft and golden. 
  3. Add the garlic and cook for another minute. 
  4. Remove the mix from the fry pan. 
  5. Reheat the pot and brown the meat in batches. 
  6. Add all the meat back into the pot and add the flour, stir until all the meat is coated well. 
  7. Add the beef stock and Guinness and stir until the mixture forms a thick smooth sauce. 
  8. Add the beef and heat until simmering. 
  9. Add the onions and garlic, and the carrots. 
  10. Place a lid on the pot and simmer gently for 1 and a half hours stirring occasionally. 
  11. Close to serving time, take the lid off and simmer so it reduces and thickens. 
  12. Preheat the oven to 200 degrees. 
  13. Pour the mixture into a pie dish and spread so it is even. 
  14. Place a sheet of puff pastry on top and cook until golden. 
  15. Serve the beef and guinness pie with mashed potato and a pint!

Notes


  1. Beef and Guinness Pie stew mix is suitable to freeze for up to six months. 
  2. This can be made in the slow cooker. Follow the directions for browning - then place the mix in the slow cooker adding the stock, beer and vegetables. Cook on low for 6 - 8 hours on on high for 5 hours.
